Who's Hot in Asia/Philippines: Sharon Cuneta Sharon Cuneta, 38, made advertising history when her face was used to launch a shipping line. Thanks to this actress-singer who rose to fame doing puppy-love romances, Filipinos no longer perceive all local ships as floating coffins. They have made an exception for "Sharon's ship" - the Superferry of the WG&A shipping firm - which she endorsed as safe and fun.
She doubled passenger volume in three months.

Sharon One of Asia's 50 Movers & Shakers
I must congratulate Sharon Cuneta for having been named Most Effective Product Endorser because of her credibility by the A.C. Nielsen, one of the very few truly credible and reliable survey groups. That makes Sharon the true and real "Commercial Queen," having endorsed all kinds of products, from food (McDonald's, etc.), luxury liner (SuperFerry), feminine wash (PH Care) - name it, Sharon has endorsed it.

It was truly a bountiful harvest for Crying Ladies at the Metro Manila Film Festival awards night last Dec. 27. It won five major awards: Best Picture, Best Director (Mark Meily in his movie debut), Best Actor (Eric Quizon), Best Supporting Actress (Hilda Koronel), and Best Child Performer (Julio Pacheco).

Nothing to Cry About
On the surface, "Crying Ladies" tells the stories of three women who earn a living crying for the dead, forcing tears from their eyes and sobs from their chests for a stranger (well, not exactly a stranger, but we're getting ahead of our story) when their lives give them plenty of reasons to cry --- for themselves.

Sharon, Pops Take on Mature Roles
WE appreciate the change of image that Sharon Cuneta and Pops Fernandez have daringly effected this year. After many seasons of playing it cute and young to keep their fans happy, they have finally chosen to portray older and less escapist characters in their new starrers.

Crying Ladies Is Tony's "Gloria"
First, a clarification: Crying Ladies, Unitel Pictures' entry to this December's Metro Filmfest, has nothing to do with Rebecca Quijano, dubbed as The Crying Lady who allegedly saw who really shot Ninoy Aquino on the same China Airlines plane she was in on that fateful day in August, l983.

Kung Ako Na Lang Sana
THE FIRST FILM together of Sharon Cuneta and Aga Muhlach, "Kung Ako Na Lang Sana", turns out to be one of the best films we've seen so far this year in local cinema. It will not win awards but it's a well-made endearing romance about friends who go on a platonic relationship for years then finally fall in love with each other. Films that belong to this genre include "When Harry Met Sally" with Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan and "Brown Sugar" with Taye Diggs and Sanaa Latham. read more
Film Review: "Kung Ako Na Lang Sana"
LORD Almighty, will wonders never cease? Despite my severe dislike of Sharon Cuneta movies, here is one that is not only sweet, but unusually smart, uncommonly mature, and genuinely warm. All my instincts were switched on attack mode before seeing this movie, especially after my recent experience with Sharon's last emote-fest Magkapatid.. Yet Ako na Lang Sana disarmed me, with its intelligent script and charming characters. What a treat! read more

Picture Perfect By Mario Bautista/Photographs by Richard Chen
S Magazine, March 2005
In the fickle world of show business where relationships between couples, married or not seldom last, it is heartwarming to look at Sharon Cuneta and Senator Kiko Pangilinan as they receive us in their beautiful home in Ayala Westgrove, Sta Rosa, Laguna. This coming April, they will be celebrating their ninth wedding anniversary. "Ang bilis nga! Sharon gushes. "It seems only yesterday when we got married." What would be the most crucial test in their nine years of togetherness? "It's her two miscarriage," Sen. Kiko replies. "First was in Boston and later, here in Manila, four months after we returned home from the U.S. It was a traumatic experience for both of us, but we held on to our faith and now, God has blessed us with Frankie and Miel."
THE STA. ROSA HOME.
Sharon is the perfect picture of a happy wife and mom, full of warmth and joy as they talk to us. Their six bedroom house sits on on a sprawling 2,400 sq.m.lot., complete with a delightful garden and a swimming pool. It was designed the way Sharon wanted it by Kiko's architect brother, John-John Pangilinan. "When I'm here, I don't want to go out anymore kasi there's no pollution here and you can still hear birds singing in the trees," she says. "We've been here for more then one year na. but around February or March, we have to return to our house in Wack Wack dahil tapos na ang renovation no'n a major one, kasi it's leaking when it rains and all the electrical wiring and the pipes have to be changed. It's like we have new house."
Their home has become some sort of a tourist attraction in the neighborhood and we heard the price of lots and properties around it has gone up since the Megastar lived there.
SHARON'S latest pride, Mariel Daniella Sophia,
is only four months old but she's already so big she looks like a six-month-old. While Frankie, who turned for years old last December 16, looks like the Senator, there's no mistaking that Miel is Sharon's carbon copy. She's my most difficult pregnancy so far," shares Sharon. "Araw-araw, I cry and feel so depressed. But it's worth it because she's the most malambing among all my daughters. She weighed 8.3lbs. at birth, very long, big and fat. And she's so matakaw. Laging gutom kaya she's only four months old pero pang six months na ang damit niya. I'll breastfeed her until she's six month old. I also breastfeed KC and Frankie, pero may halong formula Unlike kay Miel who gets her mom's pure unadulterated milk. I already lost 30 lbs. But I'm still fat. I can't go dieting naman kasi nga nagbe-breastfeed ako. My target weight is 120 lbs. I've received offers for weight loss programs. Pero bakit kaya none for lipo? I'm willing to try it basta maganda ang trabaho." Her body clock now is adjusted to Miel's. "When Miels goes to sleep, I try to catch on with my own sleep. Kasi kapag gising na siya, I have to attend to her,"she says. She's hands-on mom but there's one thing she wouldn't do. "I won't give her a bath," she admits. I just let her yayas do it. Takot akong magpaligo kasi baka mahulog."
Doesn't Frankie get jealous of Miel? "Not at all," she answers."Even before I got pregnant with Miel, we ask her to pray with us for a new baby and while Miel was in my womb, we'd give presents to Frankie saying they came from her baby sister. So ngayon, ateng-ate ang dating niya kay Miel. The moment she wakes up in the morning, she goes straight to my room and asks: 'Where's my baby sister? Nakakatuwa sila tingnang dalawa."
KC
And how's KC (Concepcion, Sharon's eldest)?
"She came home for the Christmas holidays. Pero sandali lang. Balik agad sa Paris after the New Year, Kasi she's now working part time with a company that produces documentaries," says Sharon.
How's KC's European suitor, Hugo?
"Honestly, I like the guy. Pero ayaw ni KC. May hinahanap pa raw siya that's not him. I just leave it all up to her, kasi she's so career-oriented. She's been to Spain to visit a friend and to London to tour the BBC. I'm glad she's learned to be independent. She leans towards broadcasting," shares Sharon.
Is she returning on TV soon? E saw her guesting in Aga Muhlach's sitcom, OK Fine Whatever.
"I went to ABS for meeting for a possible new musical-talk show. Noting is final yet. Napadaan lang ako sa taping nila and I was surprised biglang kasama na ako sa plugging nila. Hiyang-hiya nga ako sa mga tao kai hindi pa talaga ako lumabas. Kaya nga natsismis pang in coma raw ako,'di ba?
Last January, she did a two-part birthday special for ABS-CBN titled Wish Upon A Megastar that granted wishes from letter-senders.
"What I'd be busy with is my new album that I have already started to record for BMG," shes continues, "With me singing the compositions of Ogie Alcasid, as he himself requested I'm now also co-producing Robin Padilla's comedy with Unitel, Pasyon U. S. A. Pinag-ipunan ko 'yon. By May, Ill have a concert tour in the U.S. and I'd bring my kids with me. By June or July, siguro payat na ako uli kay I'll shoot a new movie for Unitel, an offbeat comedy. And evry month, I'd be doing concerta in various cities abroad. Hopefully, payat na rin ako by then."
Sharon's Mommy Elaine was also on hand to entertain us. She's slimmer now and looks younger. She stays by herself in their Dasmarinas Village home and just visits Sharon frequently.
"I'm with the Lord and Mama Mary," says Mommy Elaine. "They look after me.I'm still active with my volunteer work with Cofradia. We're building the Ina Poong Bato Church in Botolan Zambales but the funds daw are missing now. I wonder where it went. I also help out sa Pasay City hospital and the depressed areas there para active ako.
"With Sharon," she continues, "I have three granddaughters. With my son, Chet, who's a pilot at Cebu Pacific, I have five grandsons naman. Sharon is such a good and thoughtful daughter. She always tells me she loves me. You may not know it but she's supporting children with leukemia and those who're hydrocephalus or born with disability like having no hands or feet. She also gives scholarship to indigent students. May nakatapos na ng Nursing at Medtech. She's so generous kaya she's so blessed."
FRANKIE
IT'S easy to see that Sharon and Sen. Kiko are so happy and fulfilled with each other. Sen. Kiko has many stories about Frankie:
"I brought her to Senate and when Sen. Juan Flavie saw her, he said, 'Are you Miss Philippines? And she said, 'No. I'm Miss Pangilinan. 'She has a fertile Imagination and loves play-acting. We play school and she's the teacher, I'm the pupil. She loves her sister so much. She helped us pray for Miel to be conceived and while Sharon is pregnant with Miel, we'd give her presents that we say come from her sister, kaya wala siyang selos or insecurity at all ditto."
They'll be celebrating their 9th anniversary in April. What's the secret of their happy union?
"Easy. She goes her way, I go her way. And I always have the last word, which is 'Yes, Dear,"says Kiko.
